2009 in Review

2009 was a challenging year for The Sycamore School, for child care in Arizona and for parents who need care for their children. The loss of jobs due to the declining economy, cutbacks in DES childcare support and in medical and other social service programs have put a strain on all of us. There is still no state budget for FY2009 which began last July and further social program cuts are likely.

On the brighter side there were childcare scholarships from First Things First and the new Quality First program began to provide support to hundreds of childcare centers and homes. Sycamore is an early participant in Quality First. We received our initial evaluations and are working with our Quality First coach on plans for program improvements. At least two teachers will receive funding to attend classes next semester to further their knowledge of early child care.

Our staff participated in multiple training programs during the year and we continue to refine our educational program for the children from infants through school age. School Age camps were a huge success and we have just completed a terrific winter break camp with over 30 participants.

Thank you to our families, staff, vendors, partners and all of the many agencies who have provided support to our families. We remain committed to being the best possible preschool and childcare center in the area and hope to be working with you in 2010.
