Please Make Two Calls To Save Child Care
DES notified 9,600 parents: Child care payments end March 14th. 20,000 children will not receive child care.
• 15,000 children have been dropped - 1/3 of all the DES funded children.
• On April 1st Co-payments are doubled for the remaining 11,000 low income working parents and provider payments are decreased by 5%.
• 5,100 more children will be turned away by June 30TH by a ‘waiting list’ that denies help to all new applicants who need child care to work.
THE LEGISLATURE CAN PREVENT 20,000 CHILDREN FROM BEING DROPPED!!!!
• There are federal child care funds available to the State now.
• Governor Brewer has a plan to use the federal funds to restore these cuts.
• The Governor needs a bill from the legislature by March 14th.
• The legislature has not committed to fixing the problem by March 14th.
If you have not already called your legislative representatives, call them now (See LINKS for how to find them if you don’t know)
Most important now is to call the Senate and House leadership
Call and ask for a response to the question:
“WILL YOU SEND A BILL TO THE GOVERNOR TO USE THE FEDERAL CHILD CARE FUNDS BY MARCH 14th?”
Senate President Senator Bob Burns 602-926-5993
Speaker of the House Representative Kirk Adams 602-926-5495
